Tattoo Talk with Iy from Something in the way she moves

Name- Iy

Website-
My blog originally focused on plus size fashion & body positivity. It has since evolved to cover s number of topics from chronic illness to feminism. I tend to write about whatever is happening in my life, issues I am passionate about & of course I still cover my sartorial choices.

So what was your first tattoo and how old where you?

My first tattoo was the word Imagine one right foot. I think I was about 21.

Why did you choose that specific design (because i liked it is a perfectly acceptable answer)

I'm a huge Lennon fan. I love the message of that song, but also just the power of imagination in general.

How many tattoos do you have currently? What are they?

I have six tattoos. Roman numerals of what would have been my baby's birthday on the top of my left foot. One left wrist I have a mouri greeting meaning 'big love' in memory of a late friend. On my right inner forearm, I have 'the stars are too high', which is a quote from a favourite cycle of poetry. I have a quote from Isiah on my right upper arm. I'm not religious, but thee words have other meaning for me. My latest piece is a self penned verse on my right thigh. Plus, my Imagine.

Do you have a favorite piece? if so what one and why?
I don't have a favourite. They all have meaning & mark significant events/periods in my life.

Did you do a lot of research in to your chosen artist/artists?
For my first tattoo I just went somewhere a few people had recommended. I didn't really love that guy & so have been more thorough with subsequent work.

Are you planning on anymore?
I have three more designs in my head. After that, who knows.
A silly question as pain is relative but Most painful tattoo?
I haven't found any of my tats especially painful. Just a little stingy.

General reaction from friends and family about your tattoos/body mods? Are they happy about you having them?
General reaction is positive. No one has expressed a real dislike of any of my tattoos. Some prefer certain pieces over others. I've had much bigger reactions to some of my piercings, none of which are particularly extreme.

Reactions from members of the public about your tattoos/body mods, Good or Bad?

I have had people stare, but I've never had a stranger comment negatively on my tats/body mods. I often have people asking what something says or complimenting me.

Have you tattoos ever hindered anything you wanted to do, interviews, work, etc?

Not so far. Fingers crossed that continues.

Do you get asked did it hurt a lot? What do you tell people?
Yes, people go ask about the pain. I tell them the truth. I've never found tattoos very painful. However, some of my piercings have been pretty sore.

Do you find people will touch your tattoo (body mods) without asking? If so how do you deal with it?
No & I would not be happy if someone attempted it.

Shout out to the artist/artists hear if you want :)

By far my favourite artist is Sharon Martindale at http://www.truecolourtattoo.com in Glasgow. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
