Tattoo Talk with Rebekah

Name- Rebekah

So what was your first tattoo and how old where you?
My first tattoo is a cherry blossom branch that goes around my wrist and up my arm a little. I booked it two weeks before my 18th birthday. It was my birthday present from my aunt and uncle!

Why did you choose that specific design?
I love cherry blossom trees! there was loads right outside my primary school and I always thought they looked so pretty!

How many tattoos do you have currently? What are they?

I have 8 and a half just now.

Left arm:

Cherry blossom branch

An elephant with beads and feathers
A humming bird done as if it was a painting and the paint has ran down
Right arm:
A Lucky cat
Two roses
Back:
Two doves holding a peace sign
Right leg:
Sugar skull style owl
Half done Alice in wonderland thigh piece
Left leg:
Baby panda

Do you have a favorite piece? if so what one and why?
It's hard to pick a favourite I love them all! But if I had to pick a favourite is probably pick my roses. They're done in a kinda traditional style and I got two of them because the bigger one is my mum and the smaller one is me. They were her wedding flowers.

Did you do a lot of research in to your chosen artist/artists?
My first two were done by the same artist that done my uncles half sleeve and 4/5 of my aunts and the shop had one loads of awards so I knew they were going to be good.
The place I go now had only been open a year when I first went but I new the apprentice there and I knew a lot of people that had been there. I now go to the same shop but I get tattooed by the girl that was his apprentice!

Are you planning on anymore?
Yes! I have my Alice in wonderland piece to finish plus 3 more lined up after that. I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

A silly question as pain is relative but Most painful tattoo?
Either my calf muscle or my thigh. I think thigh wins though.

General reaction from friends and family about your tattoos/body mods? Are they happy about you having them?
My grans aren't huge fans of them but don't hate them either.
The rest of my family have at least one so no one really minds.
my mum likes to jokingly ask me to stop but she likes them as long as they can be covered if I need to and I don't get anything stupid or horrible.
My friends either have them or want one but are too unsure/scared.

Reactions from members of the public about your tattoos/body mods, Good or Bad?
I get mixed reactions.
There has been so many times I've been told they're amazing, beautiful, cool, awesome, brilliant, unusual(in a good way).
But I've also had people ask me why would I do that to my body. I've been told I've destroyed my body, I've ruined my skin forever, I'll regret them in a few years/when I'm older/old.
I had one middle aged man tell me I've ruined my looks with tattoos and piercings and an old lady once said to her friend on the bus about how unladylike it was.
While at my job an old woman turned to her daughter while I was serving them and said how I wouldn't have been allowed to do that in her day and it wasn't nice to see a young girl with such things.

Have you tattoos ever hindered anything you wanted to do, interviews, work, etc?
I've only ever been rejected for a job once and it was more for my piercings than my tattoos but they were really strict on jewellery basically if it wasn't a wedding ring it wasn't allowed.
Although when I start a new job I always ask if they would prefer me to cover them up and take out my facial piercings. I think most places prefer if you say to them first about it and a lot of places are surprisingly okay with one or the other and sometimes both but it's always better just to ask on your first day!

Do you get asked did it hurt a lot? What do you tell people?
Sometimes. It depends which one they ask about but I usually just say that it's sore but it's a manageable pain usually nothing too intense unless it's on a sore part of the body.

Do you find people will touch your tattoo (body mods) without asking? If so how do you deal with it?
Sometimes yes but it doesn't really bother me too much.
