Tattoo Talk with Katie from 2under2

Name- Katie Davies

Website- Tell us a bit about your blog if you want.
So what was your first tattoo and how old where you?
I think I was 16 when I had my first tattoo, it is of a paw print on my chest.

Why did you choose that specific design?
In all honesty I don’t think I put much thought into the design. I just knew that I wanted something small and in a place that it couldn’t be seen.

How many tattoos do you have currently? What are they?
At the moment I have 8 tattoos they are the paw print on my chest, Chinese writing on the top of my back, a star behind my ear, cherry blossom on my wrist, stars going over my hip, a cover up tattoo which is of rose on my opposite lower hip, the Tibetan mantra on my foot and a rather large geisha girl on my thigh!

Do you have a favorite piece? If so what one and why?
My favourite has to be my geisha girl! It is the one I put the most thought into. I had seen a geisha girl tattoo that I liked but I customised it to my liking by adding the fan. It is my largest and most colourful piece.

Did you do a lot of research in to your chosen artist/artists?
Yes, due to my first tattoo and my cover up being less than satisfactory I did a lot of research into the artist and even though it was more expensive it was definitely worth it as the quality is amazing and they have since been doing all of my tattoos.

Are you planning on anymore?
I think I am slowly running out of hidden skin but I would never say never I love tattoos and they are addictive.

A silly question as pain is relative but Most painful tattoo?
Definitely the tattoo on my foot, I honestly think it only took about 15 minutes but it was almost unbearable!

General reaction from friends and family about your tattoos/body mods? Are they happy about you having them?
My dad has a love/hate relationship with my tattoos! But my friends seem to like them and my auntie jokes that I have her tattooed on my thigh!

Reactions from members of the public about your tattoos/body mods, Good or Bad?
Generally all very positive but on one occasion I went on a spa day in my bikini and there were a few horrified stares from the older generation!

Have you tattoos ever hindered anything you wanted to do, interviews, work, etc?
Yes very recently actually. I used to work as air cabin crew 10 years ago and a well known airline has recently started operating at my nearest airport so I applied for cabin crew got shortlisted for interview but was turned away because I have visible tattoos that the uniform would not cover. Even though they could quite easily be covered with tights and/or make up. I was in all honesty heart broken, I thought I would be able to get my dream job again but sadly not.

Do you get asked did it hurt a lot? What do you tell people?
Oh yes, I just tell people that it is like somebody scratching a needle over your skin (which technically it is I know) but there really isn’t any other way to describe it, and it isn’t an unbearable pain anyway.

Do you find people will touch your tattoo (body mods) without asking? If so how do you deal with it?
No I haven’t encountered that luckily, maybe to the location of my tattoos!

Any parting words?
Your body is a blank canvas, why not decorate it! After all you can’t take life too seriously… have some fun!
