Tattoo Talk with Amy Rudd

Name- Amy

Facebook Page- Amy Rudd Tattoos

So what was your first tattoo and how old where you?
My first tattoo was on my hip/stomach and it was in memory of my nan when I was 18.

Why did you choose that specific design?
I designed it myself, it's a freesia flower as it was my nans favourite flower, it's blue and purple as they were her favourite colours, it has the watch face in the center as when she died I was given her watch, and the time inside was the time she died. I also have 'cough it up chicken it might be a gold watch' underneath the flower as she used to say that to me all the time.

How many tattoos do you have currently? What are they?
I currently have 5, one I mentioned above, a yellow lily on my other hip/stomach with one sister, one fighter, one love underneath as she survived leukaemia when she was 15 months old. On my left thigh I have a cherry blossom branch with family underneath it, on my other thigh I have matching cherry blossoms and veni, vidi, vici underneath which is I came I saw I conquered in Latin and it to so with me securing my tattoo apprenticeship 2 years ago. I also have a skull with Mickey Mouse ears on my inside left ankle which I tattooed on myself as that's what my shop makes the apprentices do before we could tattoo customers, the skull is the logo of the shop I work at and the Mickey ears are because I'm obsessed with Disney.

Do you have a favorite piece? if so what one and why?
My one for my nan, it was my first one which made me decided that I absolutely wanted to get into tattooing and it has a lot of meaning.

Did you do a lot of research in to your chosen artist/artists?
My first one I did, the others I've had done at the shops I've worked at so I knew the artists work anyway.

Are you planning on anymore?
Not at the moment, I have to think a lot about my tattoos and they all have a meaning so I want to make sure I'm making the right decisions.

A silly question as pain is relative but Most painful tattoo?
The hips most definitely.

General reaction from friends and family about your tattoos/body mods? Are they happy about you having them?
General reaction is okay, it wasn't at first but since I started working in the tattoo industry they have become a lot more accepting, I think they also like the fact that they are hidden.

Reactions from members of the public about your tattoos/body mods, Good or Bad?
Most people don't see them, but I've always had good comments towards them.

Have you tattoos ever hindered anything you wanted to do, interviews, work, etc?
No, because I work as a junior tattooist obviously it's not ever a problem haha.

Do you get asked did it hurt a lot? What do you tell people?
Yes I do all the time, I'm honest with them and say that my stomach ones were very painful, but I also mention I have a weak pain threshold too!

Do you find people will touch your tattoo (body mods) without asking? If so how do you deal with it?
I have sometimes, I don't really mind it, they aren't in intimate places so it's not really an issue.

Shout out to the artist/artists hear if you want :)
My mentor La Vale (lavaletatyou on Instagram) for giving me the amazing opportunity and teaching me the ways of the tattoo industry!

Any partying words?
Obviously tattoos are your own choice, but from working in a tattoo shop I've noticed more and more cover ups recently, so I'd say really think about what you're getting, don't listen to the opinions of friends and family unless for religious/cultural reasons, but most importantly, have fun and get tattooed!
