Tattoo Talk with Estelle from Estellosaurus

So it's that time again..
Name- Estelle
It's a very new blog, I don't have a theme as such, it's going to be basically me talking about whatever has taken my fancy that week! My second blog post is going to be about my newly acquired talent - knitting badly!

So what was your first tattoo and how old where you?
I had my first tattoo done on or around my 18th birthday - my best friends mum took us to the tattoo parlor (it's next to a 'Gentleman's Club and is frequented by hairy servicemen). I picked out a tribal sun sort of thing and I got it on the top middle of my back, a little below the bottom of my neck between my shoulder blades, the guy tattooing me was the oldest guy ever. I think he's still going - he must be 112 by now. I am planning on having a cover up done, not because I regret it, but because I had an operation that involved cutting part of the tattoo out (I had a suspicious mole removed!) and its ugly and lopsided now with a scar in it !

Why did you choose that specific design?
It was a rash spur of the moment choice, I picked the design out of all the Dolphins and Tom & Jerry and Tweetie Pie ones he had for you to choose from. I liked it and I felt so grown up and daring because my mum didn't know.

How many tattoos do you have currently? What are they?
I have 12 tattoos. The tribal sun, above that on the bottom of my neck I have the word 'etoile' - my name means little star - it's French so I thought it would be fitting. I have 7 stars each a different colour going from big to small down my spine, then a large tribal piece in pink and purple across the bottom of my back (it's the one tattoo I regret), I have flowers on one hip and a butterfly, ladybird and bumble bee on the other. I have a skull and crossbones on my right wrist, a mustache on my left forefinger and a little heart on my left forearm, I have stars on my ribs on each side, little birds on my chest and my newest addition which is a unicorn in a teacup on my chest between the birds

Do you have a favorite piece? if so what one and why?
I love my newest tattoo, it's exactly what I envisaged, the lady who drew it up and tattooed it captured it perfectly. I adore it. I also love my finger mustache, my best friend and I got them at the same time to remind us of an old joke we shared when we were younger. It brings me happy, hilarious memories

Did you do a lot of research in to your chosen artist/artists?
My first few tattoos were done in very quick succession, I got them all in my early twenties as I was being rebellious, as I got older, I did do slot of research, I listened to recommendations and I looked into where the artist worked and I chatted with them beforehand before going with them.

Are you planning on anymore?
Yes! In a few weeks I'm adding a little cat and a heart to my right hand, I'm also having my mustache and birds recolored. In the future I intend to add to my chest and have a 3/4 sleeve done.

A silly question as pain is relative but Most painful tattoo?
My finger mustache, it hurt so much! I was surprised by the pain. My newest tattoo was painful after the event, felt like I'd been punched!

General reaction from friends and family about your tattoos/body mods? Are they happy about you having them?
My mum hates them, my husband likes them, I guess he doesn't have much choice though. I have a few friends with tattoos, it's not that unusual these days! When I was 21 or 22, I had over 20 piercings, my mum thought they were vile. She was overjoyed when I went into hospital for an operation and they all had to come out!

Reactions from members of the public about your tattoos/body mods, Good or Bad?
I've had the odd bad reaction, mostly when I've been in sleepy country villages in the back of beyond.

Have you tattoos ever hindered anything you wanted to do, interviews, work, etc?
Not really, no. I can cover my tattoos up if I need too and I always have done for interviews. Tattoos are much more commonplace now, but I still don't want that to be the reason I didn't get the job. I interviewed once for a reception job and was told I'd need to remove my lip and tragic piercing if I got the job, I would have done, having a job was more important. Luckily, I wasn't successful!

Do you get asked did it hurt a lot? What do you tell people?
I do, all the time, people seem to find it fascinating that you'd want to inflict that pain on yourself. I'm sure many won't believe me, but I don't find them that painful. Of course there is pain there, but I've lived the majority of my life in considerable pain due to disability, so honestly, for me a tattoo is certainly far from the worst pain for me.

Do you find people will touch your tattoo (body mods) without asking? If so how do you deal with it?
Luckily no. My most 'on show' tattoos are on my chest. You'd have to be pretty brazen to be touching me there without asking!

Any partying words?
So many people tell you not to get a random tattoo just because you felt like it or saw something you just loved, tattoos don't have to be meaningful and sentimental I don't think. I will say always always research who and where you are being tattooed, if you want to get Spongebob Squarepants behind your left ear, then flipping well go for it. Just don't let the guy offering to pop round and tattoo you in your kitchen do it for you!

Thanks a lot to Estelle for taking part, be sure to go and check out her blog and if you would like to feature on Tattoo Talk then shoot me an email or a tweet.
